Door speaker replacement - Noob question

Had been thinking of changing my stock Sunny's speaker for some time. Last week while opening up my door panel to check out the stock speakers 6.5", noticed that it is mopunted to the door by 3 screws at the 12,4 and 8 o'clock positions. I have seen pioneer speakers of the same size with 4 screw holes. Worried that if I get a set of speakers with a different position for the mounting screws, will be unable to fix it onto the door. What is the solution if I were to encounter such a problem. Maybe a very elementary question but this is my first time thinking of DIY such a thing, please enlighten me. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies, seems more complicated than I thought. The wood mentioned is best to be MDF right. Will look into it and try to rethink whether to proceed or not. Having to cut wood to size, maybe I let professionals handle the job. Thanks.

get hold of

1 pc of 2mm rubber sheet/ dynamat abt 400mm x 400mm form it ard the hole in door, cut openings where one of the original holes are. the rubber sheet will form a cone behind the speaker for better sound effect.

get hold of 10 pcs self tap/drill screws abt M3 X 1/2 inch long, pan head type (with cross head/ philip head).

connect ur speaker (make sure the terminal will fix and is secure, else u hv to remove again)

use back one of the screws to fix back the exposed hole and fix speaker in place. do not tighten.

position the speaker and use a 2mm drill bit to form new hole. complete with self tap drill screw. remember to park ur car in MSCP cos u need a clean working area. hold the door when u drill. do not push again the wall or u will end up with dents. use suitble drill bits, for metal type not wood which uses aluminium type. hv at least 2 drill bit n a plyer standby. cos u may break them n need to prise them off.

once the screws r in place, test ur speaker again b4 tighten the screws n closing the door panel.

and for courtesy of other drivers, remove all ur debris when u finish.

Bro,

I changed my stock sunny's front door speakers myself and might be able to advice you on how to go abt dng it.

The stock speakers comes with a black plastic spacer mounting. Tt is the best spacer to be use back. the reason is because, MDF board with that thickness (1.5 inch thick) is hard to find. stacking 2 mdf boards will cause sound distortion also. Moreover, water penetrates into the door will cause the board to rot also. So use back the stock spacer, cut and tear away the stock speaker cones with a plastic cuter and use back the same mounting.

I would advice you to get a smaller or same size speakers as the stock so as to eliminate the need to file the walls of the spacers.

Your concern about the screw holes not align, on any set of speakers, there are numerous holes on the edges to suit different clock position of the screws, tts the least to worry.

What you should worry is, do you wana change the stock wiring to a better quality one? If so, the most tedious problem is to get the wire (concealed) across from the car body to the door panel via the rubber flexible duct. U need to ve special tools to do that. the easier way out is to get it across exposed, which is very very unsightly.

anything unsure do get back to me.

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply. I am now thinking of going to a scrapyard to get a set of old sunny speakers to work on. Cuz if I get a pair of good speaker, I may want to retain it for my next ride and fix back the stock when selling it off. Yep, I read that MDF may rot after some time. About the rewiring, think I will have to let the professionals to do it. Having to remove everything from dash, center console, seats and carpet seems too complicated for me, if cannot fix back after removal, will have problem driving it to the shop too. [confused] If just replacing the stock one way paper cone speaker with a 3 or 4 way coaxial speaker, think it is just a plug and play operation, right?

Lots of consideration going on. [:p] If getting components, I will tend to keep them if selling off the car later, but if some cheaper 3 or 4 ways, I may just let them remain in the car when selling it off.

For me, DIY is the way to go coz i like to DIY . If u r not well verse with it i think u better not embark on it. Leave it to the professionals. My advise is, go JB do if u wana save cost. Its reali cheap across the straits.

As for the speakers, i think if u want to sell e car away, u dun even ve to fix back front speakers for them coz they wldnt care if the car comes with speakers or not. Juz simple radio with 2 rear speakers will do.

If u intend to go scrapyard, i think u wont get Pre FL sunny ard coz most pple export it to other countries to get more money instead of scraping it. U r likely to see those 10 yrs and above cars there.

Hope i helped.
