Just now at a SPC petrol station, I saw a SCE plate '94 model WRX pumping 95RON.

I thought min RON for WRX is 98RON?

Confirmed it is WRX. I saw rear disc brakes, and when the engine was started, there is no way it is a 1.6l

Hahaha, then we have a driver who buy a performance car,

then use non-performance petrol just to save 5 cents/liter.

Pump 50 liters save less than $2.50.

If thats not pathetic, dunno what is. [laugh]

Turbocharged

My friends' WRXs and Evos run on RON 92 after a little modification on the compression ratio. It runs just as well and the fuel grade really doesn't make a difference contrary to popular believe.

You are right. The Octane value determines the firing before top dead centre, hence, in a high compression ratio car, it is important to adjust it to an earlier firing.

Did this on my Renault R5 Turbo in the 90 using 130 Octane from a certain propellar aircraft, adjusted the BTDC firing very close to the TDC and have to adjust back to even earlier firing upon selling.

Thanks for info. My friends are real experts on cars in terms of everything. However, they are real busy and difficult to reach. I don't really know the detailed mechanics of it all. Just remembered that they told me its something to do with compression ratio which makes sense to me anyway.

This may be difficult to believe but they have a full set of tools and diagnostic equipment. Its sorta like a full fledge workshop. But its only for themselves. Everything is done DIY. From servicing to modifications and the works.

So not too surprised about it as I do have a full set myself... As for the elctronics, there is this particular thingy/chip which determine the octane value of the car for firing.
