Valjean Neutral Newbie August 30, 2005 Share August 30, 2005 Both SL & SM 10w30 are selling at 10.90 at IMM now What's the difference between SL and SM? SL is a newer 'grade' of oil and so is better than SM, is it? Sorry, oil newbie here.. thinking of getting full syn oil for my upcoming 10k svcing. Thks! Jet8998 Neutral Newbie August 30, 2005 Share August 30, 2005 I think the second letter denotes the version, so SM is newer than SL. Btw, I am not the expert in oil... just do a search, you should be able to find the answer.
Genie47 1st Gear August 31, 2005 Share August 31, 2005 Some people like SL, some people like SM. SL has more antiwear additives than SM.

Valjean Neutral Newbie September 2, 2005 Share September 2, 2005 The norm is 4 quart bottles of engine oil for each oil change right? I'm asking coz according to my manual, each oil change for my car requires 2 7/8 quarts (which means 3 bottles shd suffice?). Pls advise. Thks!
