See me on Friday? NCD! Too many things to do. Got to pack the students off. Send their labcoats to laundry. Remove the pipettors (we got cases of theft in our building by other scientists! dizzy.gif) and pick daughter up.

Biologist. But to tell you the truth, it is the chemists that rake in the big bucks. The rest of the scientists feed the chemists for all their needs.

I hope the chemist are not the similar to those of the wafer fab days......the best did not come as they are comfy with their situations, we produced the second best, and the stuffs cost as much as the best.

Neutral Newbie
Heee.....thanks. Looking forward seeing you too.

interesting....I was a hospital administrator, now in the oil and gas industry....what do you think.

I was hoping that we have learnt from the wafer fab manufacturing era.....or did we?

Er...what is it about Wafer Fab Manufacturing hah? I am in it leh... [:/]

We do face lots of challenge from Taiwan and China is picking up fast as well...

I am sorry if I might have offended you on the comment. There is nothing wrong about Wafer Fab Manufacturing, it is about the competitiveness and trying to jump start the economy with a certain breed of people. Like you rightly say so...the challenging competitors, China and Taiwan.

Cost of production...increase in Singapore, pay and overheads etc....next is type of wafer, is it a must have, eg...Boeing aircrafts must use it or Intel etc...we are not. We became not competitive in terms of quality and cost was my point, with the breed of people we have imported. I was hoping that we have overcome this in the biotech industry, or did we.

The problem with biotech is that it takes a long time to realize. You want my numbers? I'd say 30-40yrs. We got Big Pharma in Tuas now. OK we are manufacturing drugs and stuff. The research is going fine here but the damn problem is our local people. Gahment like that local people also like that. Impatience breed impatience. Want to see result in a short span of 10yrs. People want high pay after slogging for PhD. In the end, very few local people taking up PhD student programs here. Got to attract people from elsewhere.

How can we sustain when we don't produce people ourselves?
