Kasparov_1 Neutral Newbie August 13, 2005 Share August 13, 2005 (edited) hey man.. sort of workmanship probs la. Had my 1.8 altis for a year plus now. so far i had to replace the driver's side window seal cos i could hear the wind at speeds of 80kph and above. Had to fix my front passenger vanity mirror cover as it got loose after awhile.. Right now there's this buzzing sound coming from my airconditioner and it gets louder when i turn up the fan speed. However, i suspect its just a piece of dried leaf and nothing mechanical. just my experiences =) fuel consumption is great however..my 1.8L with a light foot and conservative driving gives me about 520km on a full tank. Works out to be about 11-12km/L Edited August 13, 2005 by Kasparov_1
Vit4wd 1st Gear August 13, 2005 Share August 13, 2005 (edited) Foe your info, even the Japan made G9 Corolla (2000 to 2003) has persistent problems like warped externmal window frame rubber seal, faulty power window motor, what more can you expect out of a Thai assemmbled product, even if its a Toyota? You are just paying a premium for the brand name. Edited August 13, 2005 by Vit4wd

Hihi Neutral Newbie August 14, 2005 Share August 14, 2005 Heard that this Thai made car has workmanship prob(loose part or funny noise), any1 2 verify that I had my 1.6 Altis for 3 months now... so far, besides a rattling noise coming from my bonnet (which happens to be the aircon pipe fastened too tight thus whenever moving off, it'll vibrate and hit the bonnet, thus rattling sound), there's no other problem... Vit4wd 1st Gear August 14, 2005 Share August 14, 2005 Altis has never been cheapest in its class - 1600cc category. You can get fully made in Japan cars like Sunny & Lancer for under $55K. Even Camry 2l is expensive - costs same as Thai assembled Accord 2l even though Camry's OMV is lower. Borneo Motors is not passing down savings from its cheap labour Thai assembly plant to consumers. Profit margin for Altis is BIG - $10K

You are just paying a premium for the brand name. i had a bmw 523IA '97 model before my toyota. It had its own problems with power windows too. There was one occasion when the windows would go down but not up, so i had to drive it with irritating wind noise for about a week before i cld send it in for repairs. Engine problems set it in the 5th year with uneven cylinder wear and tear. After fixing that for a hefty 4 figure amount, the prob came back and steering had a lot of noise too.. sold it in its 7th year. I guess every car has its own little problems here and there

Passerby Neutral Newbie August 16, 2005 Share August 16, 2005 Altis shud be cheaper than Sunny in many ways, judging from the origin of car. Labour, steel, electronic parts, glass, chemicals etc from Thailand are to be much cheaper than that of Japan. Altis or Camry prices are now cheap, well, think again. They can be much cheaper. Borneo Motor is laughing to the bank with such high margin. Abt quality of Altis, it is still too early to find any real fault (shud there be any), as this model is not time-tested. Remember, Altis is not Corolla. The latter has been bread & butter model of Toyota, and has sold world-wide, thus, quality shud be world-standard. Remember Soluna?? Thai's Toyota, same as Altis, they end up in junkyard (after about 4-5 yrs inhabitance in Singapore).
Showtime Neutral Newbie August 16, 2005 Share August 16, 2005 it says "corolla altis" on the back... so what are you saying?
Huggable Clutched August 16, 2005 Share August 16, 2005 The Altis is just a variant of the Corolla, just like Corolla Spacio. A small MPV based on the Corolla platform. Incidentally the actual name of the Vios is "Soluna Vios", guess BM is trying to dis-associate the new model from its previous model!
Showtime Neutral Newbie August 17, 2005 Share August 17, 2005 yes its a variant. but it was stated earlier that corolla is not altis... thats inaccurate imho ↡ Advertisement
