Cracker 1st Gear August 1, 2005 Share August 1, 2005 Saw a 3 cars collision along PIE (opp NTU towards Tuas) this morning (~ 0750). The red optra was in the middle with its front hitting, probably an old nissan sunny and its rear was banged by ...looked like a vios. The damage to the Optra was quite jiat lat... probably can see it at SA's Ubi branch soon.. ↡ Advertisement

Coldfish Neutral Newbie August 1, 2005 Share August 1, 2005 don't think so Spango. At high speed, any car will get squashed into pulps when crashes on an object. If its an Altis, it'll probably become a 2 seater. My car was hit by a Volvo and it's left back side door was dented at least 5" inwards while may Aveo suffered scratches and slight dents at the fender. Lesson learned is try to keep a safe distance between your car and that in front. The highway code can't be wrong.
Aveoious Neutral Newbie August 5, 2005 Share August 5, 2005 Agree with coldfish, Aveo's body not that soft. I think Altis/Vios have softer body than our chevy body.
Spango Clutched August 5, 2005 Share August 5, 2005 Wah... But my Aveo got dents here and there liao.. Either resulting from flying stones or people swinging their doors open at carparks...
Cracker 1st Gear August 5, 2005 Author Share August 5, 2005 it depends on the pt of contact...the bumper is supposed to absorb the impact aka crumpled. But then 2 mths ago,, I had hit the rear of an old Mit Colt directly...Its rear was seriously damage whereas my Optra's damage can only be seen upon very close examination. Stary Turbocharged August 5, 2005 Share August 5, 2005 Not really. Few days back I saw and Optra head on crash with a Volvo S60 I think. Was at a traffic light. The chevy turning, and then the volvo going straight. The volvo couldn't brake on time and bang onto the optra....right in front of my eyes. I was few cars behind the optra. I tot the optra would be mince meat, but surprisingly it didn't. The volvo's front was totally smashed, but only half of the optra's front caved in. Doesn't look too bad. The volvo's airbag as activated (i think so....saw white bag), but the Optra driver walked out like nothing happen (pretty sure no airbag activated) Me and my passenger was like wow!! Aveoious Neutral Newbie August 5, 2005 Share August 5, 2005 Aiya...you must have been parking beside those vans and lorries. Actually, you can go try "feel" the other car's body against our Aveo. I can try you, ours felt stronger/harder.
Spango Clutched August 5, 2005 Share August 5, 2005 No leh... I always try hard not to park beside lorries and vans... But the few times I had to park beside these, I do a closer inspection when I retrieve my car and find that I didn't receive any dents... However, when I do have to park beside these lorries and vans, I do make sure that I go all the way into the lots till the point where their front door can't swing out and hit me - For vans, the rear door slides backwards, and for lorries, err... what rear doors? Interestingly, I witnessed a few times these lorry drivers park their lorry then change to a Lexus and drive off...
