Rather stupid question right? But trust me, it is not as simple as it looks loh....

Budget : Surprisingly, the price difference between the 2 rims is only $200 ! [nod]. So I guess budget is not that much of a concern here as the obvious choice is Original loh.

Weight : The Original rims is about 10.5kg while the Replica weights about 7.5kg only.... Therefore the replica rims is about 3kg * 4 = 12kg lighter.... 12kg lighter in terms of unstrung weights !!! How much impact would that have on the fuel consumption????

Reliability : Of course people will swear by the sturdiness of the Original... But would the Replica version bonked out just like that? Given SG road conditions, these rims should be able to tahan quite long enough right? Even those so called "Original" sports rim from local car dealers are OEM version of some Malaysia / Taiwanese rims and people are driving them for long time.....

Welcome all to post their opinions and thoughts here... Cheers.... [angel]

Although it's something we may take for granted, it's important to know whether your rims are sturdy enough. I've seen a couple of Sunnys at the workshops, and most of them had one thing in common - their standard Nissan "sports" allows were broken. Not a good sign at all... imagine if failed spokes were the cause of an accident... [shakehead]

I'm not saying that the replicas are not strong, but sometimes there's a reason why wheels weigh so much based on their design.

If the price difference is a mere $200, get the original. If you want light rims, better get other original light rims.

Then again, I may be biased against JRD! [sweatdrop] BTW, does the kopi rims has any certificate, like TUV approved or something like that? It helps.

Just my $0.02.

Wow, seems like most of the Bros would rather bear weight and go for the reliability... [thumbsup]

By the way, what are the brands in the market with light rims? But I really like the design of the ROH Blade and hopefully there one with similar design and light-weight too.... [gossip]

I think it's more of a reliability issue. Your wheels/tyres are the only contact between you and terra firma so I'd rather be safe than sorry. Just imagine you're cruising at 150kmh and hit a pothole........

BTW, heavy doesn't usually mean strong. Hard but brittle rims crack just as easily.

I had a like to a site where there's a list of light weight rims but the site's not there anymore. Sorry! [:(]

Saw the replica at Autobacs some days back.

IMHO, I advise you to place reliability as a priority. Cheap rims tend to be harder to balance due to the lower rim manufacturing tolerance and the weak tensile strength.

Especially using low profile tyres, you stand a great chance to losing the rim's 'truness' (i.e. rim wobbles) as they get banged over potholes and stuff. The end result may cost more than you think (bearings, driveshaft, tyres). I cannot begin to tell you the number of broken rims I've seen and most of the suppliers do not sell them on 1s or 2s cause the rims will probably be obsolete by then...hence cost to buy an entire new set.

I am not condemning such rims but most people who go for sporty rims have this habit... aggressive driving.

Have to agreed with you that original will have to have certain standards in order to establish the Brand.... But of course certification generate cost also.... which would in turn be converted into higher cost for consumer....

Me? Hardly an aggressive driver.... For me, rims are used for "looks" purpose more than "performance" purpose.... [laugh]

Does Autobacs have a large collection of rims? hummm.... might want to consider to drop-by and have a look....

Then you might want to consider Taiwanese Titanium Rims. They cost cheaper than Branded Standard Rims and very light.

However I'd avise getting tyres lesser than 50 profile cause you may never know if you accidently go over a pothole or rock.

Autobacs stocks an okay range of rims in terms of variety and quality.

Perhaps you might wanna drop by Leong Seng cause they have quite a few used rims and some are really good ones.

Hope this helps.

Go for originals since the price diff is marginal. As the saying goes, "the quality remains long after the price is forgotten". [;)] Go ROH! [thumbsup]

ah.... I see.. you are still in the delimma after the "shopping" session yesterday...

my 2 cents worth... if you really like the blade, get original ROH. Why? Seriously, heavier in this case may means better quality, reliability and stronger alloy.... [nod][nod]

Or if you are think that the diff is S$200 and the JRD looks so "like real"... be different get the original shadow chrome ROH blade!! [thumbsup]

Currently keeping my option open loh... Might want to check out the taiwanese rims first loh... see whether any replica and light also... hopefully taiwanese rims is better than malaysia rims loh....
