Inflation hits Mercedes driver so hard he cannot afford to pay for parking

In the 2010s, a Mercedes C250 was worth about $200,000 when it launched.

So you know inflation is getting bad when someone who could afford that just a decade ago can’t even pay their parking fees anymore.

What happened?

On 27 April in the carpark of Parklane Shopping Mall, a Mercedes C250 driver decided to just ram the parking barrier arm instead of paying his parking fees.

Or perhaps it was an accident? The Mercedes initially approached slowly, before a burst of acceleration caused a hit on the barrier arm before braking. Regardless of what it may have been, the Merc drove off soon after.

Maybe he’s saving to renew his COE. We all know how much THAT costs now.  And with core inflation at 5% now perhaps even people who can drive such vehicles are feeling the pinch too.

On the other hand, if you check on the Wayback Machine, Parklane Shopping Mall's price for parking hasn't gone up either so... Maybe just stingy?

Online chatter

Of course people will bring up the irony of someone driving a car worth a couple hundred thousand, but is unable to spare maybe 5 bucks for parking.

A couple of people also suggested "solutions" to discourage others from following this driver's example.

  • A sole-ful tribute

Car enthusiasts are an emotional bunch. So, I naturally develop feelings for things on wheels, be it four wheels or two. However, I was surprised to discover that I had become attached to my old pair of sneakers, whose soles are so worn that it hurts to wear them.  That is the unequivocal signal to retire them. But I must say "Thank you" before bidding them goodbye. The laceless design is convenient, saving time when you need to rush off in the morning Through thick and

The best covers are the ones you don't expect

I'm not a fan of Christmas.  Let's first set aside the unclear and potentially contentious origins of this particular 'holiday', and my general apathy towards religiosity. (Christians celebrate it as the day of Jesus' birth, though some evidence suggests his actual birth was in the spring. Some historians also note that the Christian traditions of Christmas can be traced back to Pagan roots and the Saturnalia festival, and the chosen 25 December date was an attempt by church leaders to appr

Titan's Fall: Back to Square One

Manchester United have once again signalled a restart with the sacking of Ten Hag, and just days later, announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim, who will join midway through the first half of the current season from Sporting Lisbon. Back to square one yet again for the Red Devils who, despite being one of the most successful clubs in England and biggest clubs in the world, have not won a league title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Since then, they’ve gone through a whole ho

Christmas colours: What do they actually mean?

The members of the Sgcarmart media team recently put its heads together to prepare something special and festive for our readers and viewers - which you can both read about and watch on Instagram - and as we were sitting down to plan things out, we were faced at one point with a deceptively simple question: What are the different meanings behind the colours we associate with Christmas?  In my very non-expert eyes, three distinct colours stand out: Red, green and white primarily,
