Full details of Peugeot 3008 Hybrid 4 has emerged as the car is heading to next month's Paris motor show in production form. This is the first hybrid production car from PSA, also the world's first diesel-electric hybrid.

By mating the already very efficient 2000-bar common-rail injection turbo diesel engine with a small electric motor, Peugeot achieves a carbon footprint of just 99 grams per kilometre. This compares well with the most efficient hybrid and advanced diesel cars currently on offer. Considering that the 3008 is a pretty heavy crossover, its achievement is all the more impressive.

The 2.0HDi engine in this car produces 163 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. The electric drive is located at the rear end of the car. All the electric components, namely the motor, step-down gears, inverter and power electronics control module and NiMH battery pack are all located under the rear seat and boot floor, which is easy for the high-seating 3008 platform. The electric motor has a continuous output of 27hp and 74 lb-ft of torque. This diesel-electric combination should give some very decent performance.

The diesel engine drives the front wheels through a 6-speed automated manual gearbox. The electric propulsion system is completely decoupled from the engine as it drives the rear wheels directly, so the car is a part-time 4WD. Drivers can select one of the four driving modes:

Auto: computer decides the combination of engine and motor power to optimize fuel economy;

Sport: sportier gearshift pattern optimizes performance;

4WD: engine and motor work in parallel to enhance traction;

ZEV: zero emission vehicle mode, i.e. electric power only.

Sadly hybrids are not a solution to replace the fossil fuel which we are using up soon. And the thing about the environmental issue we dunno whether we will see any results 2 decades down the road.

  • Christmas colours: What do they actually mean?

    The members of the Sgcarmart media team recently put its heads together to prepare something special and festive for our readers and viewers - which you can both read about and watch on Instagram - and as we were sitting down to plan things out, we were faced at one point with a deceptively simple question: What are the different meanings behind the colours we associate with Christmas?  In my very non-expert eyes, three distinct colours stand out: Red, green and white primarily,

    Japan is weird. I love it (Part 4)

    I recently finished watching Shōgun (yes, I'm a little bit late to the party). Released earlier this year, Shōgun has become an utter revelation - going on to win 18 Emmys at this year's Primetime and Creative Arts Emmys, making it the most awarded single season of television in history. It's also the first non-English-language series to win Outstanding Drama Series.  And it truly is outstanding, fully deserving of all the awards that it has garnered.  As you would expect, the show rev

    The Act of Creation

    “WHAT’S A GOOD USERNAME?!” Such was the source of my agony as I was handed a pair of figurative keys to MyAutoBlog. I’d asked the colleague from IT who was helping me set up this account if I really had to make an account with my work email, hoping I could use the username that came with my personal MCF account instead. “yes”, in lowercase no less, was what I got. Oh well. After a good 10 minutes (I think), I decided on this username (a reference I hope someone gets), juvenile and

    ERP 2.0: Possible positions for your processing unit

    Your OBU's processing unit isn't always mounted on the passenger footwell. Depending on the car that you drive, more than one option may be available! Since November 2023, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been gradually replacing in-vehicle units (IUs) with the new on-board units (OBU). The OBU will pave the way for smoother traffic as we transition to the new ERP 2.0 system that is based on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology.  The OBU comprises three parts: An
