Tiny pothole wrecks a BMW 2 Series convertible

TL:DR – A BMW 2 Series convertible goes over a small, unassuming pothole/manhole that causes its rear end to flip up, lose some parts from its undercarriage and swerve into another lane.

It's incredible how a small pothole/manhole can cause thousands of dollar's worth of damage to a car.

Here's an example recorded on a video forwarded many times on WhatsApp groups.

From the footage, we know that this incident happened on 11th April 2021, Sunday around 5pm.

As to where this is, I have a feeling it might be somewhere around Woodlands. But, if you have any idea, do let me know, and I'll update the article accordingly to warn fellow road users where to avoid.

Update: Thank you everyone who identified the location. It's in Yishun.

If you hit the pause button upon the point of impact, you'll notice that bits and pieces fall out from the undercarriage of the 2 Series.

That’s as unlucky as this guy

I reckon those parts are not going to be cheap to replace or repair.

The pothole/manhole

This image circulated together with the video. I'm assuming the cam car driver got out of the car and snapped a photo of the pothole/manhole.

That road in the vid is Yishun Ave 8 heading towards Yishun Dam.
Key landmarks are the Symphony Suites condo and the road bridge over that canal, which is just after where the bimmer hit whatever uneven spot it may be.

We have lousy road repairs done by dunno what contractors or is it the lowest bidder? In the small picture alone you get to see 3 shades of black and grey on the tarmac. It suggests that the small stretch of road has gone thru multi layers of repair works...probably in a different time frame for each layer.

Who will be responsible for such poor repair works? It could be done by a couple of different companies to say the least. Whether the car insurance company will cover the car's damages we arent too sure.

  • Japan: The trend that became a turn-off

Ahh Japan. The destination that many travellers desire. The perennial trending subject on social media. Japanese cuisine, culture, quirks, technology, and everything kawaii have inspired endless posts, stories, reels, YouTube videos, and TikToks. If one didn't know better, you'd think it was the dream destination on this planet. While I love the food, the service and the shopping, the sheer number of tourists (me included) has become a turn-off. I'm not talking about those who inconven

The Music that Shaped Me, Pt. 1

Some of my colleagues will know that I make electronic music outside of work and school. A stark contrast from the impression I give off (several people throughout my teenage years told me I seemed more like a classical guy). Truth be told, I wasn’t always into music. Growing up in an average Singaporean Chinese household, my main sources were either the sporadic exposure to radio stations, or more frequently the theme songs of whatever was playing on KidsCentral/Okto (RIP free-to-air kids

Japan is weird. I love it (Part 7)

Ok, the title might be slightly misleading, but there is still a Japan-link.  So, pufferfish. Specifically, a wikipedia entry called Pufferfish mating ritual.  Long story short, one particular species of pufferfish make complex geometric circles in the sand to attract a mate. And this particular species is found only in Japan.  It's beautiful. It's bizarre. And it's absolutely amazing.  From the wikipedia entry: In a 2014 documentary by the BBC, narrator David Atten
