The Lancia Stratos is back!

The Lancia Stratos is back!

Though we have never seen a Lancia on Singaporean roads before, nor heard the growl of the Stratos, I'm sure many car enthusiasts here know about the striking design which left an impression on many and some even dream of owning one. Well, a wealthy man who chose to remain anonymous, has decided to resurrect the lost soul. And now its back on the test track with a modern/retro design which some may love, or hate..

The one thing that made the Stratos so outstanding was the way it looked. It was compact, yet styled to look like something out of a ten year old's sketch book. It was mad, stylish and mesmerizingly pretty. This one however, looks a little odd. It doesn't have the charm of the original even though the basic shape is rather similar. The good thing though, is that both the original and the new Stratos share a Ferrari engine. The new one gets it power from a Ferrari F430 Scuderia and its chassis is from the Ferrari as well, but shortened to fit the small wheelbase of the Stratos.

The sad thing is that because this project was started by that wealthy man, you won't be seeing it in mass production. Anyway, we will never get to see one, but for the rest of the world, there is still some hope as the car was seen at Fiat's test track near Milan which suggests Fiat's involvement in the production of the car and they may release limited edition models just like the 8C.

You are too young, there were Lancias on Sg roads before, ages ago...

yup, I would agree...I remember as clear as yesterday (although it was a good 18 or more! years back) a Lancia Delta HF turbo in canary yellow with SG plates belting it out on a Malaysian B road. Though not the all out rally legend the Delta Integrale (which was left hand drive so this HF Turbo WAS the next best thing), it was a bloody good memory to have.

There were other memories. But this was the best....aside from watching a Lancia Thema 8.32 cruising on the north south highway in the mid 1990s. the 8.32 uses a 3.2 liter v8 from a Ferrari 328 at the time and it actually sounds like one with the correct (or very aftermarket) exhaust system.

Yep, there definitely were Lancias on our roads before so the first sentence of this story is already inaccurate. I drove one so I should know, even though it was only a humble Lancia Dedra 1.6 Saloon...

I used to own a Lancia Thema Turbo so what's the first statement about not having Lancia's in Singapore before?

Obviously the writer wasn't born yet when Lancias were racing the streets of Singapore. Ha! ha! :D :D :D

  • Japan: The trend that became a turn-off

Ahh Japan. The destination that many travellers desire. The perennial trending subject on social media. Japanese cuisine, culture, quirks, technology, and everything kawaii have inspired endless posts, stories, reels, YouTube videos, and TikToks. If one didn't know better, you'd think it was the dream destination on this planet. While I love the food, the service and the shopping, the sheer number of tourists (me included) has become a turn-off. I'm not talking about those who inconven

Forget the Future - Embrace the Past

Ah, the future. That shiny, chrome-plated paradise we're all supposed to be chasing. Well, I say bollocks to that. Let's take a cheeky detour down memory lane instead, shall we? Imagine you're lounging in a velvet smoking jacket, sipping brandy from a crystal snifter, surrounded by dusty tomes and antique globes. Sounds rather spiffing, no? That's because old is gold, methinks. While everyone else is frantically scrolling through their social media feeds, we'll be gleefully embracing t

    Armored MMA

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a brutal sport that, in recent decades, has grown to significant prominence.  Whatever you make of the sport (and the often complicated and sometimes problematic climate that swirls around it), there's no denying its popularity, driven in large part by the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) brand - a multi-billion-dollar global enterprise.  But if partially-clothed men/women beating the s*it out of each other is not quite your thing, may I interest you in

Less caffeine leads to more dreams

There's nothing like a double espresso to kickstart your morning, especially if it's extracted from medium- or dark-roasted beans. What a tasty way to begin the day. I enjoy coffee, but I'm not a caffeine addict so it's not a must for me to consume. In fact, lately, I've only been drinking it once or twice a week - doing this ensures that when I do drink it (to power my way through a hectic day), the caffeine kick will be well and truly felt. I did not stop drinking coffee thrice a day
