An 11 year old joins the Ferrari F1 team
The youngest human being to ever join an F1 team is 11 year old Canadian Lance Stroll. Believe it or not, he has been inducted into Ferrari's Driver Academy program and will be going under training and supervision to possibly become an F1 driver for Ferrari in future.
The talented young individual won twice at the Canadian national championships in the Rotax Mini Max category as well as the Coupe de Montreal and Coupe du Quebec Micro Max Championship in 2008 and both Mini Max Championships in 2009. He was also nominated by the Federation Sport Automobile du Quebec as the Rookie of the Year in 2008 and Driver of the Year in 2009. Formula 1 driver in the making? At least he has the opportunity to make it! Luca Baldisserri, who runs the Ferrari Driving Academy said: "We are pleased to welcome Lance to our group, he is very young, but he has already shown in karting that he is exceptionally talented".
If Singapore ever wants to have our flag on the F1 circuit, other than being the host for an F1 event, this is what we're going to need. A talented driver, some wins under his belt and of course, talent spotters. You can drive as well as Michael Schumacher without anyone looking and you're never going to get anywhere. Sponsors need to come in to pump much needed financial aid to support the driver and once spotted, he could possibly become Singapore's first ever Formula 1 driver. Of course, all this is just talk. But if it really gets down to business, hopefully we can have a representative in an F1 car in the near future if there is talent on our tiny island..
