blogentry-114362-0-94787700-1399350140_thumb.jpgWith a new Land Rover Defender due in 2017 (the current one bows out of the market next year), Mercedes-Benz will reportedly introduce a major update to its G-Class around the same time in order to keep the rivalry between the ultimate utilities alive. While the new Defender will be an all-new model, complete with new styling, engines and underpinnings, the G-Class is only expected to receive an update, though the changes to the vehicle are said to be so extensive they could be considered a complete redesign.

The information was revealed by insiders to Drive, which reports that engineers are focused on improving the G-Class’s stability, both on and off the road. Expect to see a wider track, made necessary by wider wheels and new suspension designed to boost interior space. Increased aluminum and high-strength steel will also be utilized to help shed weight, possibly reducing the current model’s 5,665-lb curb weight by as much as 440 pounds.

The updated G-Class will also benefit from Mercedes-Benz’s latest tech, including electronic power steering, new driver assistance features and the latest in connectivity and infotainment. Interestingly, we hear that 2012’s Ener-G-Force concept car will influence some of the vehicle’s exterior styling, although the classic boxy look should remain.

As for the powertrains, look for the German automaker’s new straight-six gasoline and diesel units. These will displace 3.0 liters and deliver up to 360 horsepower in some guises thanks to turbocharging and direct fuel injection. Of course, more powerful AMG variants will still be on offer, as they currently account for more than 50 percent of G-Class sales worldwide.

Wow... the concept looks like an absolute nightmare for the production engineers with so much details and curved lines.

I'm damn well sure the production model will look 1 hell of a different.

Nothing beats the outlook of the boxy off roaders.

I just realised the headlamps form the shape 'G' for G-Glass perhaps?

  • Japan: The trend that became a turn-off

Ahh Japan. The destination that many travellers desire. The perennial trending subject on social media. Japanese cuisine, culture, quirks, technology, and everything kawaii have inspired endless posts, stories, reels, YouTube videos, and TikToks. If one didn't know better, you'd think it was the dream destination on this planet. While I love the food, the service and the shopping, the sheer number of tourists (me included) has become a turn-off. I'm not talking about those who inconven

My favourite racing game is back!

THERE'S A NEW TOKYO XTREME RACER GAME ON THE WAYYYY!!!! This is the best news for fans of this rather understated and obscure racing game. Also known as Shutoko Battle in Japan, this is a series of racing games by Genki, a Japanese game company that was founded in 1990. Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 is one of the most popular game in the series as it features many cars, opponents and an extensive map For those that have never heard of these games, I'll give you a quick run-down. The art of doing nothing?

Here’s a quick fun fact for those who’ve sworn themselves entirely off TikTok, out of the fear of having to run yet another social media account: You don’t actually need to log in to the app to scroll it. Quite incredibly (but also quite scarily), the platform’s algorithm is still able to curate an incredible array of videos that it thinks will make you want to keep scrolling. And for this existential-crisis-ridden 28-year old, it’s decided to feed videos more along the 'self-help’ route re

Japan is weird. I love it (Part 6)

Fireflies. Not a topic I think about often, if at all, but here we are.  On a recent podcast episode, I learnt that the light that fireflies emit is nearly 100% efficient. That's amazing (nature generally is). And it is precisely the study of fireflies (and their light) that has allowed the development of more efficient LED lights.  On a whim, I did a bit of extra Googling, and lo and behold, Japan pops up once more, with yet another culturally-unique eccentricity.  In Japan, ther
