blogentry-133713-0-48585800-1394622106_thumb.jpgWith the COE getting higher, the days of changing cars regularly are pretty much over for most of us. So, to counter the itch of changing cars, more owners are putting in effort to change their current ride's look. With that in mind, the team at sgCarMart has been on the lookout for nicely done up cars and we spotted this clean looking Mitsubishi Galant at our usual lunch break hangout.

blogentry-133713-0-10298200-1394680621_thumb.jpgInto its eighth generation, the Galant sold pretty well back in the early 2000s. While most of us will remember the high-revving VR-M and the turbocharged VR-4, it was the normal 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre that sold well. With most of the Galants gone from our roads(most of them did not survive after their COE expired), we were pleasantly surprised to spot this immaculate 2.0-litre example.

blogentry-133713-0-29611800-1394622126_thumb.jpgInspired by Chip Foose, star of the reality TV series Overhaulin' on Velocity, the owner modded his Galant in tune with the mid 90's JDM look. This meant that most of the stuff seen on the car are made around that period.

blogentry-133713-0-38103000-1394622143_thumb.jpgStarting from the front, the stock bumper and grille that came with the car have been swapped with the JDM Galant VR-4's to make it look cleaner. The lights were smoked too.

blogentry-133713-0-35371000-1394622148_thumb.jpgThe side skirts were trimmed around the edge to make sure that it doesn't look too bulky. Loving the amount of details in this car!

blogentry-133713-0-36963100-1394622165_thumb.jpgWhile the muffler tip has been changed to give it a streamlined look, the exhaust remains stock.

blogentry-133713-0-03492400-1394622132_thumb.jpgAnd now to the wheels. After spending two years searching for it, the owner finally found his "Holy Grail"; a set of 18-inch ARD GT wheels. Conceived after a collaboration between ARD and 5Zigen, this is a rare three-piece rim that he wanted so much on his Galant. Coincidentally, the rims, which have been discontinued since 1996, falls under the correct period (90's).

blogentry-133713-0-71057400-1394622187_thumb.jpgThe rest of the car remains untouched, which is no bad thing since it is already pretty well-specced for a near-10-year old car. Sunroof and digital climate control are standard and the INVECS II automatic gearbox allowed one to manually shift, which was rare back then.

blogentry-133713-0-64409000-1394622221_thumb.jpg Moving forward, there are plans by the owner to fully convert it into a true VR-4. We can't wait for it to happen!

I have always been a lover of Galants.

Maybe its because of the lack of a spoiler. Maybe its because of the colour of the car. Perhaps it has to do with the lowered suspension. But somehow, this Galant does not attract me. I have seen many more other handsome specimens on the roads.

My family used to have one. We had it for 9 years. 243k mileage on it. '03 Silver Galant 2.0 with VR-4 package. Been through a lot! Totally underrated car! Traded it in for a Volvo back in 2012. If that nonsense COE didn't interfere, we would've kept it. A truly unique car indeed!

  • Japan: The trend that became a turn-off

Ahh Japan. The destination that many travellers desire. The perennial trending subject on social media. Japanese cuisine, culture, quirks, technology, and everything kawaii have inspired endless posts, stories, reels, YouTube videos, and TikToks. If one didn't know better, you'd think it was the dream destination on this planet. While I love the food, the service and the shopping, the sheer number of tourists (me included) has become a turn-off. I'm not talking about those who inconven

Japan is weird. I love it (Part 6)

Fireflies. Not a topic I think about often, if at all, but here we are.  On a recent podcast episode, I learnt that the light that fireflies emit is nearly 100% efficient. That's amazing (nature generally is). And it is precisely the study of fireflies (and their light) that has allowed the development of more efficient LED lights.  On a whim, I did a bit of extra Googling, and lo and behold, Japan pops up once more, with yet another culturally-unique eccentricity.  In Japan, ther

We happy few, we Band of Brothers

It is safe to say that one way or another, the majority of Singaporean men have served their country. Be it sleeping in the jungles of Mandai, walking the beat on the streets of Clarke Quay on New Year’s Eve, or putting out fires (literally) clad in heavy protective gear, most local and naturalised male citizens have given up, as the song goes, “two years of our time”. But many have differing views of National Service. Some see it as a hindrance, a waste of time. Some see it as an opportuni

    Fascinated by honey

If there's one natural food (aka can be eaten raw) that I absolutely love, it's honey. Yes, there are countless varieties from around the world, but for this story, we'll talk about the kind that comes straight out of a hive, complete with honeycomb. I'm not an expert on this topic, but every time I consume raw, unprocessed honey, it tastes a lot better compared to honey that comes in a jar. No squeeze-bottle honey for me, please. Perhaps it's just my imagination, but raw honey doesn't
