blogentry-133711-0-76418000-1393405074_thumb.jpgJaguar has just handed out details of its XFR-S Sportbrake - a fire breathing, 543bhp 5.0-litre supercharged wagon capable of dishing out a 4.8 seconds century sprint.

Everytime a carmaker spices things up, people (like us) get excited. Moreover we are talking about a Jag here - who could resist a sexy feline that has just gotten hotter?

Based on the XF, the XFR-S Sportbrake is Jaguar's first high performance, R-S badged estate. With that in mind, you can't help but to bring in more 'established' players - such as Audi's RS6 Avant and Mercedes-Benz's E63 AMG S-Model Estate into the picture.

A quick comparison with the two Germans shows that the Jag loses out both in the horsepower contest and the race to 100km/h. The RS6's 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 develops 560bhp and 700Nm of torque for a 3.9 seconds century sprint timing. The E63 AMG, too, has a bi-turbo V8 - but bored to 5.5-litre. With 585bhp on tap, it will despatch the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.1 seconds.

But we reckon you won't encounter either of these two on a daily basis. More importantly, the Jag has the looks to kill.

Like any super sports car, the XFR-S gets larger-than-life 20-inch rims to help boast a solid, purposeful stance.

Those side blades do look a tad too familiar though (like those on the RS6).

And of course, part of the Sportbrake's appeal lies in its ability to swallow cargo while keeping up with supercars - up to 1,675 litres with the rear seats folded.

This is probably Jaguar's first go on making a hot estate.
The fast estate is a dying breed, I can only think of the E63, RS6 and CTS-V Wagon. The more the better, especially if they are as good looking as this

Strong resemblance to HSV wagon which can be had at a fraction of the cost. Besides who to show off to in the Outback?

  • A sole-ful tribute

Car enthusiasts are an emotional bunch. So, I naturally develop feelings for things on wheels, be it four wheels or two. However, I was surprised to discover that I had become attached to my old pair of sneakers, whose soles are so worn that it hurts to wear them.  That is the unequivocal signal to retire them. But I must say "Thank you" before bidding them goodbye. The laceless design is convenient, saving time when you need to rush off in the morning Through thick and

Titan's Fall: Back to Square One

Manchester United have once again signalled a restart with the sacking of Ten Hag, and just days later, announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim, who will join midway through the first half of the current season from Sporting Lisbon. Back to square one yet again for the Red Devils who, despite being one of the most successful clubs in England and biggest clubs in the world, have not won a league title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Since then, they’ve gone through a whole ho

    The Act of Creation

“WHAT’S A GOOD USERNAME?!” Such was the source of my agony as I was handed a pair of figurative keys to MyAutoBlog. I’d asked the colleague from IT who was helping me set up this account if I really had to make an account with my work email, hoping I could use the username that came with my personal MCF account instead. “yes”, in lowercase no less, was what I got. Oh well. After a good 10 minutes (I think), I decided on this username (a reference I hope someone gets), juvenile and

Japan is weird. I love it (Part 4)

I recently finished watching Shōgun (yes, I'm a little bit late to the party). Released earlier this year, Shōgun has become an utter revelation - going on to win 18 Emmys at this year's Primetime and Creative Arts Emmys, making it the most awarded single season of television in history. It's also the first non-English-language series to win Outstanding Drama Series.  And it truly is outstanding, fully deserving of all the awards that it has garnered.  As you would expect, the show rev
