Based on the 12C super car, albeit with the face of the McLaren P1, McLaren Automotive expands its young lineup with the McLaren 650S - which would formally debut on the 4th of March, at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show.

Like the 12C, the 650S is available either as a Coupe or a Spider with a retractable folding hard top. According to McLaren, the 650S promises to redefine the high-performance supercar segment, and has been designed and developed to provide the ultimate in driver engagement on both the road and the race track.

The badge designation refers to the power output - 650PS - amounting to 641bhp - from the British-built McLaren M838T twin turbo V8 engine, while 'S' stands for 'Sport'.

Inspired by the McLaren P1, the front bumper and the better integrated front splitter contribute to increased levels of downforce, for a greater level of steering feeling and confidence to the driver on turn-in, while also adding to the agility and handling.

A new design five-spoke lightweight forged '650S' alloy wheels are unique to the model, and are fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres for optimised road holding, handling and driver feedback. The bespoke 'MC1' branded tyres have been developed alongside the 650S by Pirelli.

The McLaren Airbrake, now operates with a greater level of functionality providing increased stability. The newly developed system deploys the Airbrake when the car requires added downforce - instead of braking or when manually operated in 'Aero' mode. Below the Airbrake, a distinctive rear three-piece bumper, similar to the GT3 racing version of the 12C, compliments the aerodynamic shape of the McLaren 650S.

Active aerodynamics featured on its stable of cars have been further developed and honed to ensure the ultimate performance and ability for the 650S.

Enhanced levels of specifications are also available as an added option. These include fixed-back carbon racing seats, an electric steering column adjustment, a rear parking camera and extended carbon fibre throughout the interior.

Less than 3s to reach 100kmh. Quite a healthy production of 1k cars annually. Wonder how many will end up in our millionaires packed little island?

This looks like the replacement for the current 12C, and will probably look similar to the smaller P13 version which is coming next year. It looks better than the 12C, but I still can't get excited about the look of the current McLaren sports cars. They have the engineering and technology, but not the passion.

agree the car could do more in the looks department. I prefer sharper lines. But what do i know? I'm just a jelly keyboard warrior

So McLaren now has three cars, all using the same platform, and all sharing a 3.8 turbo V8, plus or minus some hybrid hardware?

  • Titan's Fall: Back to Square One

Manchester United have once again signalled a restart with the sacking of Ten Hag, and just days later, announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim, who will join midway through the first half of the current season from Sporting Lisbon. Back to square one yet again for the Red Devils who, despite being one of the most successful clubs in England and biggest clubs in the world, have not won a league title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Since then, they’ve gone through a whole ho

My inexplicable attraction to instant food

Ready-to-eat microwaveable meals, instant noodles, plane food - these aren't typically the kinds of foods that people will spring for when given a choice. But for some reason, I actually enjoy eating foods like that, and would even find myself craving for them at times. I know, most of you would say it's the salt, seasoning, MSG, sugar and all the unhealthy flavourings that I'm hooked to. And you might be right - but I think it's more than that; there's something about eati

    DENZA D9: True Flagship Excellence

What makes something a flagship? Flagship products represent the very best of a brand. Whether it's cars, electronic products, even services, a 'flagship' is core to a brand experience, as well as to the brand's image. Besides just delivering all the tangible features and functionality offered by the brand, a flagship product is also a showcase of the intangible - about what a brand stands for, and what it aims to deliver to customers. DENZA, a BYD Premium Brand, has now been officiall

    A right-handers world

I was mid-way through a bike ride in Ladahk, feeling the ache in my right hand, when a thought occurred to me: “Huh, how come the throttle is always on the right side of all bikes?”  Statistically, about 90% of people in the world are right-handed. Full disclosure: I am right-handed, part of this largely ignorant majority.  And if you think about it, some things are designed clearly with that in mind.  Throttle on a motorcycle? Right hand. Accelerator pedal in a car? Right f
