blogentry-114362-0-46961400-1391583032_thumb.jpgKate Upton, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition cover model, would be pitching the automaker's all-new 2014 CLA at the Super Bowlnext month. With Mercedes determined to target a more youthful buyer for its stylish compact sedan, choosing a beautiful 20-year-old pinup seemed to make good sense.

The German automaker has just released a 90-second video with the very seductive Upton interacting with soap suds and her blonde hair. The real Super Bowl ad, partially filmed in New Orleans (where the game will take place) will feature the bombshell along with R&B star Usher.

While the video is labeled "Kate Upton Washes the All-New Mercedes-Benz CLA in Slow Motion," the curvaceous Sports Illustrated babe doesn't actually do any washing. Instead, the 21-year-old Upton shows off her famous assets in the aforementioned shorts and tank top for a bunch of googly-eyed football players who do the washing for her.

Watch the German automaker's uncharacteristic presentation, and let us know if this "Carl's Jr".-like ad direction is a good way to shake up the company's image.

Last year, Victoria's Secret angel Adriana Lima starred in two commercials for Kia Optima and Teleflora. Over the years, models have appeared in many memorable ads -- like the classic 1993 Pepsi commercial with Cindy Crawford.

This is the ad with audio.

personally i feel that the ad is corny like most superbowl ads, no one even remembers the car. And look at all the youtube comments it's all about the girl.

There's no way about it. When it comes to automotive, girls and cars go hand in hand. Sex sells.

But they should have gotten a better model.

Seems like an ad for car grooming instead of Merc CLA.... kate Upon's act seems unnatural... Hope that this ad will not tarnish the premium brand image that the Merc has accumulated over the years....

She's only 20 years old? Can't believe it.

A matured skin hiding a youthful soul. Is that what Merc is trying to tell the world their brand is? Seems fitting to me!

I don't think it will have a negative effect. Kate upton is quite popular within the youngster scene. Great approach from the marketing point of view.

Talking about the CLA, The price is quite well positioned to deter market share from the Koreans (Hyundai and KIA). I like the horizontal bar grille...

okay. this is ridic? it is like advertising on the model instead? it wasnt exactly forcusing on Merc CLA. no offence, but this is a total failure. i mean yes, girls + cars = total hotness, sexy, advertisement selling fast etc etc. but this one, i wasnt buying it. i had totally forgotten about the car, in fact. haha.

  • Japan is weird. I love it (Part 4)

I recently finished watching Shōgun (yes, I'm a little bit late to the party). Released earlier this year, Shōgun has become an utter revelation - going on to win 18 Emmys at this year's Primetime and Creative Arts Emmys, making it the most awarded single season of television in history. It's also the first non-English-language series to win Outstanding Drama Series.  And it truly is outstanding, fully deserving of all the awards that it has garnered.  As you would expect, the show rev

    A right-handers world

I was mid-way through a bike ride in Ladahk, feeling the ache in my right hand, when a thought occurred to me: “Huh, how come the throttle is always on the right side of all bikes?”  Statistically, about 90% of people in the world are right-handed. Full disclosure: I am right-handed, part of this largely ignorant majority.  And if you think about it, some things are designed clearly with that in mind.  Throttle on a motorcycle? Right hand. Accelerator pedal in a car? Right f

    Building a racing-themed watch!

This. This watch dial is the reason I started on this particular watch build... It all began when I came across someone's build that utilised the same dial - prior to this, I did not even know of the existence of a Walter Wolf Racing branded watch or dial. If you don't have any idea who or what Walter Wolf Racing is, here's an excerpt from Wikipedia: "Walter Wolf Racing was a Formula One constructor active from 1977 to 1979, which won the first race the team entered. It was owne
