Also making its world premiere at New York Auto Show today is a hatchback variant of Kia's hugely popular Cerato Forte. The five door model joins the current four-door saloon and two-door (Koup) coupe versions of the Forte.

Stylistically, the hatchback conversion of the Forte is far less adventurous than you would expect from a company that has churned out some interesting designs lately including the Optima and Sportage. There are no photos of the interior yet, but Kia's release makes word of a revised center console, new paddle shifters for the automatic transmission and the addition of a push-button start. North American consumers will have a choice of the 2.0 and 2.4-liter engines while customers in other markets will be able to choose from the 1.6 and 2.0-liter powerplants. More interestingly, the Forte 5-door has been fitted with Hyundai Group's latest six speed automatic transmission. This means that we can expect to see the sedan version be fitted with the 6 speeder quite soon. If the Forte comes fitted with a new 1.6L Turbo powerplant in the future, the Japanese are in deep s--t!

In Singapore, the Forte 5-door would make a good alternative to the Hyundai I30. For those who are upset that the Kia Ceed is not available locally, they can take heart that the 5-door Forte could make a local debut. Folks at Cycle & Carriage, please make it happen! [laugh]

  • A sole-ful tribute

Car enthusiasts are an emotional bunch. So, I naturally develop feelings for things on wheels, be it four wheels or two. However, I was surprised to discover that I had become attached to my old pair of sneakers, whose soles are so worn that it hurts to wear them.  That is the unequivocal signal to retire them. But I must say "Thank you" before bidding them goodbye. The laceless design is convenient, saving time when you need to rush off in the morning Through thick and

Titan's Fall: Back to Square One

Manchester United have once again signalled a restart with the sacking of Ten Hag, and just days later, announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim, who will join midway through the first half of the current season from Sporting Lisbon. Back to square one yet again for the Red Devils who, despite being one of the most successful clubs in England and biggest clubs in the world, have not won a league title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Since then, they’ve gone through a whole ho

Forget resolutions, just focus on starting fresh

The start of a new year is always a happy time for me. Apart from gatherings and mini reunions, January is when I reflect on everything I've accomplished last year, while mentally noting the things I still need to work on. Resolutions, though, are not for me. While it's not wrong to list some and strive towards them like goals, I think making resolutions is not the optimal way for me to reach new milestones, because more often than not, they're declared 'in the moment'. Or worse, after you'

    The Act of Creation

“WHAT’S A GOOD USERNAME?!” Such was the source of my agony as I was handed a pair of figurative keys to MyAutoBlog. I’d asked the colleague from IT who was helping me set up this account if I really had to make an account with my work email, hoping I could use the username that came with my personal MCF account instead. “yes”, in lowercase no less, was what I got. Oh well. After a good 10 minutes (I think), I decided on this username (a reference I hope someone gets), juvenile and
