Pick-up trucks. Well they aren't usually the most favourable mode of transport for most people because if you were to buy a vehicle it would usually be a car or an MPV. Pickups never really crossed your mind unless you really had a need for it, for instance if you were in the construction business or if your work involved transporting huge items which a normal boot can't fit. But Volkswagen recently revealed the Amarok which actually means 'Wolf' in the Inuit language, or 'he loves stones' in romance languages of South America. Whatever you want to interpret the name as, you can't deny the fact that this looks ready for any natural disaster you throw at it.

If this pickup doesn't raise your testosterone levels, I don't know what else will. It looks aggressive yet contemporary. No signs of angular boxiness that comes to mind when you picture a pick-up truck in your mind. It looks purposeful yet does the job in style. Though no prices have been announced nor whether it will be brought in here, I just thought that this is worth a look. This model will have a payload capacity of up to 1.15 tonnes and a maximum towing limit of 2.8 tonnes. Under the hood there will be a selection of two 2.0litre TDI diesel engines which produce 160bhp and 400Nm of torque or 120bhp with 340Nm of torque. Both powerplants will have a 6 speed manual gearbox which will offer CO2 emissions of less than 200g/km.

So its environmentally friendly, does the job of a pickup well enough, and looks good. I don't see why this shouldn't be brought in to Singapore.

 Even with the most "sedate" 340Nm of torque, that's heck of a lot. For a petrol engine with that kind of pulling power would have to be the Volvo's 2.5T that has the same 340Nm. Imagine that...

This is a nice truck. I'm looking for a truck right to replace my old one and this seems to be a good replacement. I've already decided what accessories I will put on this truck when I get it. A good custom truck grills would do.

  • Hard Enduro: The ultimate motorsport?

I enjoy motorsports of all kinds - four wheels good, two wheels better. And while watching them on TV (okay let's be honest Youtube, who even watches TV nowadays) is fun, getting to partake in anything even remotely resembling it, even in a highly truncated, totally superficial manner, is even more exciting.  Earlier this year, I did a short 2.5 day off-road riding 'tour', and it was easily the hardest, most physically demanding 2.5 days I've ever spent on a motorbike. It really gives you a

    A right-handers world

I was mid-way through a bike ride in Ladahk, feeling the ache in my right hand, when a thought occurred to me: “Huh, how come the throttle is always on the right side of all bikes?”  Statistically, about 90% of people in the world are right-handed. Full disclosure: I am right-handed, part of this largely ignorant majority.  And if you think about it, some things are designed clearly with that in mind.  Throttle on a motorcycle? Right hand. Accelerator pedal in a car? Right f

    CSI Miami, you are missed

When the original CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) first aired in 2000, I was intrigued. There had been plenty of police dramas prior to CSI, but this was the first one I watched that was focussed on forensics. From DNA to Luminol sprays to blood spatter to bullet striations, using science to unravel the mystery of a crime and compiling concrete evidence to convict criminals made for good storytelling. However, CSI was visually dark as the team featured in the show worked the night shif

    Relaxing to restoration videos

There are tons of YouTube videos one could watch to unwind and decompress at the end of the day, perhaps while having dinner. You could watch one of those nature documentaries, travel vlogs featuring beautiful beaches, or perhaps a cooking show. But there's something strangely therapeutic about watching restoration videos. And the channel I find myself drawn to is Fumicho Restoration, a channel full of videos of old motorcycles being repaired and essentially reborn. I'm not even familiar wi
