DirectAsia.com an award winning online insurer has launched a new car insurance aimed at leisure drivers. This first of a kind motor insurance is available to drivers who use their car less than 8,000km per annum. You do receive all the coverage but just at a reduced premium, including Off-Peak cars.

Interestingly drivers who drive less than 8,000km per year are less prone to accidents. As such DirectAsia would like to reward such drivers by providing savings to their premiums. Through introduction of such premiums motorists can be expected to save between 10 to 15 percent, all you have to do is drive less.

CEO of DirectAsia.com Simon Birch commented the new low mileage based insurance saves motorists money if you do not drive frequently or you possess a second vehicle that is not used often. He is also delighted to be the pioneering company to offer such a service in the tropics.

DirectAsia.com, is a new and innovative online insurance provider that began operations back in June 2010. As a dedicated direct personal lines insurer, DirectAsia.com provides fast and easy access to insurance needs online.

They are fully licensed and regulated by MAS (Monetary Authority of Singapore). The company

So every year when renewing the premiums, the owner has to submit the odometer reading? How about the alleged tweaking of odometers, will owners now be tempted to do that just to ensure they stay within the mileage limit, and to save on premiums?

"Interestingly drivers who drive less than 8,000km per year are less prone to accidents" - YOU DON'T SAY? Obviously if you drive less there is a corresponding decrease in the probability of being involved in an accident.

This is nothing interesting, merely statistics

Hi Alpha78 - they don't need to submit a new reading each year. You only need to submit a reading in the first year at the start. The policy will just add 8,000kkm each year to the original reading. This also means that if you only add 6,000km one year then you can add 10,000km the next year!

Essentially the system is self policing. If you have an accident and are over the limit then you'd have a higher excess. So in order to get the most out of the insurance at the time of claims you need to be honest about your usage.

Please bear in mind that repairs can only be done at our authorised workshops. This helps to deal with the situation where people might be tempted to tamper with the odometer.

We already found that those who've bought our new low mileage policies have save an average of $150 over the standard car insurance. And our prices for standard car insurance were already the best in Singapore!

It's perhaps worth adding that you don't have to worry about going over the 8k limit. If you feel that you are going to go over that limit then you can always call us and for a small admin fee we can switch you over to a standard policy. There's therefore no risk of your policy being voided and claims rejected. I hope that helps ...

Hi Dwee, thanks for this, and sorry for the late reply - just curious as to why you wouldn't have heard of us except through SgCarMart?

In case it's of interest we've got a number of blog posts up over the last few months which hopefully help show how this new low mileage car insurance product works in practice, and helps make things clearer:

  • Titan's Fall: Back to Square One

Manchester United have once again signalled a restart with the sacking of Ten Hag, and just days later, announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim, who will join midway through the first half of the current season from Sporting Lisbon. Back to square one yet again for the Red Devils who, despite being one of the most successful clubs in England and biggest clubs in the world, have not won a league title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Since then, they’ve gone through a whole ho

    CSI Miami, you are missed

When the original CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) first aired in 2000, I was intrigued. There had been plenty of police dramas prior to CSI, but this was the first one I watched that was focussed on forensics. From DNA to Luminol sprays to blood spatter to bullet striations, using science to unravel the mystery of a crime and compiling concrete evidence to convict criminals made for good storytelling. However, CSI was visually dark as the team featured in the show worked the night shif

    Building a racing-themed watch!

This. This watch dial is the reason I started on this particular watch build... It all began when I came across someone's build that utilised the same dial - prior to this, I did not even know of the existence of a Walter Wolf Racing branded watch or dial. If you don't have any idea who or what Walter Wolf Racing is, here's an excerpt from Wikipedia: "Walter Wolf Racing was a Formula One constructor active from 1977 to 1979, which won the first race the team entered. My inexplicable attraction to instant food

Ready-to-eat microwaveable meals, instant noodles, plane food - these aren't typically the kinds of foods that people will spring for when given a choice. But for some reason, I actually enjoy eating foods like that, and would even find myself craving for them at times. I know, most of you would say it's the salt, seasoning, MSG, sugar and all the unhealthy flavourings that I'm hooked to. And you might be right - but I think it's more than that; there's something about eati
