Volvo has unleashed a slew of photos and details of its very promising all-new 2011 S60 sedan that will make its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show on 2 March. The premium model, which is aimed directly at cars like the Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class, is described by Volvo as the firm's most dynamic car ever produced, not only in terms of styling but also in terms of driving characteristics.

Even though the design has been toned down a notch from the S60 study model in the 2009 Detroit Show, it remains very close to the original concept.

Inside, the styling is equally refreshing with Volvo's designers paying extra attention to details and the choice of materials. The Swedes also claim that it's more spacious that its predecessor, offering 30mm more knee room for the rear passengers while boot opening has been made 107 mm wider than in the previous S60.

The new sedan can be specified with a choice of two chassis, Dynamic and Comfort, with the differences in the dampers and the front and rear subframes. In Europe, the newly developed dynamic chassis is standard, while most markets in North America and Asia will have the comfort chassis as standard with the sport variant available as an option.

At launch, the car will be available with two diesel and two gasoline units with three more petrol and one diesel to follow later on. I will touch on the gasoline options since they are more relevant to the Singapore market.

The most powerful gasoline engine is the 3.0-liter T6 petrol with 304HP and 440 Nm of torque. It is combined with standard AWD and second-generation six-speed automatic Geartronic transmission. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 6.5 seconds and top speed is 250 km/h. The new four-cylinder 2.0 GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine produces 203HP and 300Nm with acceleration from 0-100 km/h taking 7.7 seconds for the manual gearbox while the automatic version takes 8.2 seconds. The top speed figures are 235km/h and 230 km/h for the manual and automatic versions respectively. A 1.6-litre GTDi engine available in 180HP and 150HP configurations will be offered later on during the first year of production. All the GTDi gasoline engines will be available in combination with Volvo's automatic six-speed Powershift transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox.

Interior photos of the new S60 can be found below. The compact luxury sector is set to be spiced up again!

Wow... this car looks like a huge step backwards for Volvo.

Volvo should have a certain boxy look that tells people its a Volvo. this latest S60 seems to following the designs of the Japanese luxury sedan. No style of its own.

I'm driving the older version of the S60 at the moment...do agree that the new S60 loses its style....it looks more like a jap car...the like of IS250 or Mazda 6...I like my current S60 for its unique hind lights shape and it's a pity we do not see that for the new S60....the interior looks nice though....not sure what the price will be like ?

  • Titan's Fall: Back to Square One

Manchester United have once again signalled a restart with the sacking of Ten Hag, and just days later, announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim, who will join midway through the first half of the current season from Sporting Lisbon. Back to square one yet again for the Red Devils who, despite being one of the most successful clubs in England and biggest clubs in the world, have not won a league title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Since then, they’ve gone through a whole ho

    Still learning to let go

I believe that you need to let go of things in life to make room for new experiences. It sounds hypocritical coming from a former hoarder like me, but it is quite possibly the most important lesson I've learnt these past two years. Decluttering or tidying up is cathartic. That's why I feel clearing out your house can improve your life. Like many, I discovered this before moving into my BTO, as my better half and I attempted to clear out our guest room. Horrifyingly, it had become 'The

    Building a racing-themed watch!

This. This watch dial is the reason I started on this particular watch build... It all began when I came across someone's build that utilised the same dial - prior to this, I did not even know of the existence of a Walter Wolf Racing branded watch or dial. If you don't have any idea who or what Walter Wolf Racing is, here's an excerpt from Wikipedia: "Walter Wolf Racing was a Formula One constructor active from 1977 to 1979, which won the first race the team entered. It was owne

    Hard Enduro: The ultimate motorsport?

I enjoy motorsports of all kinds - four wheels good, two wheels better. And while watching them on TV (okay let's be honest Youtube, who even watches TV nowadays) is fun, getting to partake in anything even remotely resembling it, even in a highly truncated, totally superficial manner, is even more exciting.  Earlier this year, I did a short 2.5 day off-road riding 'tour', and it was easily the hardest, most physically demanding 2.5 days I've ever spent on a motorbike. It really gives you a
