Back in 1994, when BMW bought the Rover Group, the acquisition included other auto names such as Triumph, Morris, Austin and Riley. Basically, these other auto brands were from the British Leyland Group and they eventually changed their name to the Rover Group in the 1980s.

BWM sold the Rover name in 2000 but they kept the rights to the Triumph and Riley brands. Triumph was a British car and motor manufacturing company and they were known for their small sized roadsters such as the Spitfire. Recently, BMW has applied for a European trademark on the Triumph
