Ford has decided to combine the American market Fusion model and the global Mondeo model into a single model. A few days after the Fusion was released at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, here we have the first official photos of the pre-production 2013 European Ford Mondeo.

Like the Fusion, the new Mondeo sports an Aston Martin-like front grille that looks to swallow up competitors such as the Passat and Insignia. The European model differentiates itself from its American counterpart with a slightly different headlamp assembly and a body-coloured rear bumper trim. I particularly like the ducktail-like boot which bears shades of the Lamborghini Aventador.

In Europe, the all new Mondeo will be offered with the 1.6L and 2.0L EcoBoost turbocharged petrols along with a range of diesel units. In the US, the 1.6L and 2.0L petrol versions produce 179bhp/233Nm and 237bhp/338Nm respectively. The Mondeo

looks good ... hopefully it will provide some stiff competition to the car in D segment. A lot have to depend on the local ADs...

But the interior looks as dated as ever.

So what's the point? And it doesn't seem that this model gains in interior space.

Nice design. But AD seems to always bring in low-spec models which do not come with equipment that match up to the car's looks.

To JetAbout777: The current Mondeo is only available in the high-end Titanium spec.

No more basic Ghia spec as with the pre-facelift version of the Mondeo. You'll be surprised!

To Proton_neutron: Thanks for the information. We used to own a Mondeo before and back then in 2009-2010, most of the Mondys were available only in Trend spec with small 16" rims, locally fitted leather and dated engines. This was also the case for the previous generation Mondeo. It's good that the AD is moving in the right direction by bringing in cars with good equipment.

I had a Mondeo 2009 - 2010. Two problems were interior design and underpowered engine (the latter now fixed) - so I replaced it

But a wonderful drivers car and fantastic chassis (forget any Jap car as a comparison for the drive) - now with decent engine it is a very good proposition.

To the new model - I love the aggressive psuedo AM like front end. Interior design still a bit naff (like some Korean stuff - lets add pointless angles and lines like the designers have to justify their existence).

The approach of the year-end holidays often also means the annual pilgrimage Singaporeans take to Japan to soothe their souls after a long year will soon kick into high season. For the many amongst us who can spare neither the financial expense nor the time, however, there's no reason to fret. My inexplicable attraction to instant food

Ready-to-eat microwaveable meals, instant noodles, plane food - these aren't typically the kinds of foods that people will spring for when given a choice. But for some reason, I actually enjoy eating foods like that, and would even find myself craving for them at times. I know, most of you would say it's the salt, seasoning, MSG, sugar and all the unhealthy flavourings that I'm hooked to. And you might be right - but I think it's more than that; there's something about eati

    Hard Enduro: The ultimate motorsport?

I enjoy motorsports of all kinds - four wheels good, two wheels better. And while watching them on TV (okay let's be honest Youtube, who even watches TV nowadays) is fun, getting to partake in anything even remotely resembling it, even in a highly truncated, totally superficial manner, is even more exciting.  Earlier this year, I did a short 2.5 day off-road riding 'tour', and it was easily the hardest, most physically demanding 2.5 days I've ever spent on a motorbike. It really gives you a

ERP 2.0: Possible positions for your processing unit

Your OBU's processing unit isn't always mounted on the passenger footwell. Depending on the car that you drive, more than one option may be available! Since November 2023, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been gradually replacing in-vehicle units (IUs) with the new on-board units (OBU). The OBU will pave the way for smoother traffic as we transition to the new ERP 2.0 system that is based on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology.  The OBU comprises three parts: An
