After a 10 month long investigation the US Transport Secretary announced that Toyota vehicles are safe to drive. This statement basically clears Toyota of the unintended acceleration claims that caused cars like the USDM Camry and the Corolla to accelerate out of control. This was something I seem to have known for awhile now as I haven't heard anyone in this region that faced this problem.

Mr Ray LaHood, Transport Secretary added that the lengthy investigation found no electronic cause or faults that could cause certain Toyota vehicles to suffer from unintended acceleration. It could be down to car mats getting stuck under the accelerator pedal or human error instead of supposed faults to the car's Drive-by-wire accelerator setup. Maybe Americans wear size 12 shoes. Whatever the reason, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is still considering new regulation to improve safety on new cars. These regulation additions may require manufacturers to fit brake override systems, keyless ignition as standard and car data recorders (like those on airplanes).

In short, more gadgets in our cars and more cost passed down to us. If this happens, we know who to blame for our cars getting more and more complicated

  • Japan is weird. I love it (Part 4)

I recently finished watching Shōgun (yes, I'm a little bit late to the party). Released earlier this year, Shōgun has become an utter revelation - going on to win 18 Emmys at this year's Primetime and Creative Arts Emmys, making it the most awarded single season of television in history. It's also the first non-English-language series to win Outstanding Drama Series.  And it truly is outstanding, fully deserving of all the awards that it has garnered.  As you would expect, the show rev

My inexplicable attraction to instant food

Ready-to-eat microwaveable meals, instant noodles, plane food - these aren't typically the kinds of foods that people will spring for when given a choice. But for some reason, I actually enjoy eating foods like that, and would even find myself craving for them at times. I know, most of you would say it's the salt, seasoning, MSG, sugar and all the unhealthy flavourings that I'm hooked to. And you might be right - but I think it's more than that; there's something about eati

    DENZA D9: True Flagship Excellence

What makes something a flagship? Flagship products represent the very best of a brand. Whether it's cars, electronic products, even services, a 'flagship' is core to a brand experience, as well as to the brand's image. Besides just delivering all the tangible features and functionality offered by the brand, a flagship product is also a showcase of the intangible - about what a brand stands for, and what it aims to deliver to customers. DENZA, a BYD Premium Brand, has now been officiall

    Maps

The world map is a lie.  Well, sort of. If you think of a 2D, rectangular world map, the image that comes to mind is what's called a Mercator projection: It's... a map, no doubt, but with some very obvious distortions. The most obvious one being Antarctica, which seems like almost another planet, as well as Greenland being absolutely massive and seemingly the same size as Africa, when it is in fact 1/14 the size.  Representing a 3D sphere (Earth) on a 2D surface is fundament
