ZF, the German company that is famous for manufacturing automotive transmissions has developed a nine speed automatic gearbox for front wheel drive passenger cars. Yes, NINE forward speeds and it isn't a typo. And we thought seven or eight gears was more than sufficient for most cars. ZF has also stated that this gearbox isn't a prototype as it will be making its first appearance in a US made Chrysler (which is now owned by Fiat) and the nine speeder will be manufactured at ZF's brand new factory in South Carolina, United States.

We've heard Mercedes using their 7 speed G-tronic automatic and Lexus using their eight speeder but now ZF claims that the nine speed gearbox enhances driving performance and also maximizes fuel economy. This compact looking nine speeder is similar to ZF's eight speed automatic gearbox for its rear wheel drive cars in its design and its characteristics. It will select the

CVT has its drawbacks...it still cannot hold the refinement trump card in a torque converter automatic. note that CVTs usually have that rubber band effect as the transmission works its way up while the engine maintains a high rpm level. It can be pretty irritating in a luxury sedan - this 9 speeder is meant for luxury models at the moment. You're not going to find it in a toyota Passo or anything close to it till costs come down.

And not all manufacturers are willing to pay premium for a CVT like the one in an Audi (or have the soundproofing to match).

“WHAT’S A GOOD USERNAME?!” Such was the source of my agony as I was handed a pair of figurative keys to MyAutoBlog. I’d asked the colleague from IT who was helping me set up this account if I really had to make an account with my work email, hoping I could use the username that came with my personal MCF account instead. “yes”, in lowercase no less, was what I got. Oh well. After a good 10 minutes (I think), I decided on this username (a reference I hope someone gets), juvenile and

    DENZA D9: True Flagship Excellence

What makes something a flagship? Flagship products represent the very best of a brand. Whether it's cars, electronic products, even services, a 'flagship' is core to a brand experience, as well as to the brand's image. Besides just delivering all the tangible features and functionality offered by the brand, a flagship product is also a showcase of the intangible - about what a brand stands for, and what it aims to deliver to customers. DENZA, a BYD Premium Brand, has now been officiall

ERP 2.0: Possible positions for your processing unit

Your OBU's processing unit isn't always mounted on the passenger footwell. Depending on the car that you drive, more than one option may be available! Since November 2023, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been gradually replacing in-vehicle units (IUs) with the new on-board units (OBU). The OBU will pave the way for smoother traffic as we transition to the new ERP 2.0 system that is based on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology.  The OBU comprises three parts: An

    Still learning to let go

I believe that you need to let go of things in life to make room for new experiences. It sounds hypocritical coming from a former hoarder like me, but it is quite possibly the most important lesson I've learnt these past two years. Decluttering or tidying up is cathartic. That's why I feel clearing out your house can improve your life. Like many, I discovered this before moving into my BTO, as my better half and I attempted to clear out our guest room. Horrifyingly, it had become 'The
